About

Sustainable Climbing

A climbing brand, run by climbers, for climbers.

We believe climbing should be for everyone, and that the clothing we wear to do it should be made with the same consideration we bring to the places we climb.

Lode is an independent climbing brand founded on Dartmoor, built around a simple idea: make functional, long-lasting climbing clothing, and take responsibility for the impact it has.

We don't want to be another outdoor brand making big promises about sustainability without the substance to back them up. We want to do things differently, take the time to get things right, and give our customers the facts to decide for themselves.

Built to last. Designed to be repaired.

We believe the most responsible product is one designed with its entire life in mind. That starts with making clothing that works. Every product needs to be functional and long-lasting as a minimum. It needs to perform when you're climbing, stand up to real use, and be worth keeping for years to come.

But we also recognise that no product lasts forever.

That's why we want to consider what happens when something wears out, not just how it performs when it's new. How can it be repaired? Can its construction make repairs easier? And what happens when it eventually reaches the end of its useful life?

These are the questions we want to ask from the very beginning of the design process, not after a product has already been made.

No shortcuts. No greenwashing.

Sustainability isn't a label. It's an ongoing responsibility.

From the materials we choose to the chemicals used in production, we believe the environmental impact of our products deserves serious consideration. We want to understand what goes into our clothing, how it's made, how long it lasts and what happens to it afterwards.

That means looking beyond the finished garment. It means considering repair, recycling and end-of-life options, while working to reduce harmful impacts wherever we can.

We know there isn't always a simple answer. Materials involve trade-offs, and the outdoor clothing industry still has challenges to solve.

We won't pretend otherwise.

Instead, we want to give our customers the facts behind our decisions, be honest about what we know and what we don't, and remain accountable for the promises we make.

You shouldn't have to take our word for it.

Made for the climbing life.

Whether you're bouldering indoors, heading out for a day of trad, training for speed climbing or discovering the sport for the first time, you're a climber. And you're welcome here.

We believe climbing has the power to bring people together. Local walls, outdoor crags and shared experiences create communities that cross generations, abilities and backgrounds.

Climbing should be a safe, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy the sport in their own way. You don't need to climb a certain grade, follow a particular discipline or prove yourself to belong.

Lode is here for climbers, whatever their level or where they choose to climb.

Developed on Dartmoor.

Lode was founded on Dartmoor, and we're committed to growing our business here.

The outdoors isn't just where our clothing is worn. It's part of the environment we want to help protect.

We take our time developing our products because getting them right matters more than getting them out quickly. Through rugged testing on and around Dartmoor, we aim to develop clothing that can handle the demands of real outdoor adventures.

We want our products to earn their place in your kit: through their function, their durability and the thought that goes into making them.

A better way to climb.

We're building Lode around a straightforward belief: climbing clothing should work hard, last longer and be made with greater responsibility for its impact.

We won't claim to have solved every challenge. But we can commit to asking better questions, making considered decisions, sharing what we learn and holding ourselves accountable to the standards we set.

Because sustainable climbing isn't just about what we make.

It's about how we make it, how long it lasts, what happens when it's worn out, and the responsibility we take along the way.

Lode. Sustainable climbing.

Made for climbers. Designed with purpose. Built for the long run.
